Dr Justyna Sierpatowska is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience across community, crisis, liaison and inpatient mental health services. She specialises in complex presentations, diagnostic uncertainty and situations where psychological, physical and social factors interact.
Her clinical approach is formulation-driven and psychologically informed. Rather than focusing on symptoms or diagnoses in isolation, she seeks to understand each person within the full context of their life: their history, relationships, physical health, environment and the experiences that shape how they think, feel and respond.
Dr Sierpatowska views psychiatric assessment as a collaborative process. She aims to offer a clear, thoughtful clinical opinion while helping individuals make sense of their difficulties: what may be happening, how certain patterns developed, and which interventions or changes may genuinely support recovery. She places particular importance on careful listening, clinical curiosity and shared decision-making.
Her perspective is systemic and psychologically grounded. She is interested not only in identifying and treating mental disorders, but in how people adapt to adversity, relationships and major life events, and how these adaptations, while once helpful, can become limiting over time. Psychiatric consultations
A psychiatric consultation covers the clinical interview, mental state assessment and a treatment plan. The first appointment runs 50 minutes, which is how long it takes to go through your symptoms, previous treatment and family circumstances.
The psychiatrist asks about sleep, appetite, energy, concentration and mood over recent weeks. Questions about alcohol, medication and family history follow, because those three change what can safely be prescribed. Asking about suicidal thoughts is routine rather than judgement: every psychiatrist asks, and the answer decides how quickly things need to move.
You leave the appointment with a diagnosis and a treatment proposal. That can be medication, a recommendation for psychotherapy, or both. Prescriptions issued by a psychiatrist at Luxmedica are dispensed by UK pharmacies.
A follow-up appointment lasts 30 minutes. It reviews whether treatment is working and adjusts doses. A repeat prescription without a consultation costs £60.
Medical paperwork is priced separately: a medical letter costs £160 and a psychiatric report is quoted individually. A medical letter states the diagnosis, the treatment given and the recommendations for your GP. A psychiatric report answers a specific question set by an employer, insurer or court, so its scope and price follow that question.
Adult ADHD assessment
ADHD assessment at Luxmedica runs in two stages. The initial diagnostic appointment lasts 90 minutes and costs £390, and the further assessment stage costs £690.
The further stage covers up to two additional consultations and an interview with someone who knows the patient well. That interview is not a formality. Diagnosing ADHD in an adult calls for evidence of symptoms in childhood, and your own memory rarely reaches back twenty years in that detail.
DSM-5 criteria require symptoms before the age of 12, present in at least two areas of life and interfering with everyday functioning. Assessment is therefore several conversations and questionnaires, not a single test.
The UK standard for adult ADHD is set out in the NICE guideline “Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: diagnosis and management” (NG87).
Come to the first diagnostic appointment with specifics: what school was like, when concentration first became a problem, what happens at work now.
The full diagnostic pathway costs £1,080. Private ADHD assessment in London usually runs between £900 and £1,500, so a £390 first appointment lets you start without committing to the whole sum.
An ADHD diagnosis opens two routes: medication and adjustments at work or in study. ADHD can meet the definition of a disability under the Equality Act 2010, and an employer then has a duty to consider reasonable adjustments.
How to prepare for your appointment
Bring a list of the medication you take, with doses. It decides what the psychiatrist can safely recommend, and it is the thing patients forget most often.
- Medical records: hospital discharge summaries, test results, previous diagnoses.
- A GP letter, if you have one. It is not required, but it shortens the interview.
- Notes on your symptoms: when they started, what makes them worse, how they affect work and sleep.
- Someone who knows you well for an ADHD assessment: a parent, partner or sibling, someone who remembers your childhood or sees how you function day to day.
No GP referral is needed. You book a private psychiatric appointment in the UK yourself, without going through your GP and without an entry in your NHS record.
Your diagnosis and recommendations reach your GP, if you ask for a medical letter (£160). Without that request they stay between you and the treating doctor.
