Dr. Piotr Zelga is a graduate of the Medical University of Lodz. He completed his specialist training at the Department of General and Colorectal Surgery of the Medical University of Lodz, which is national centre of excellence for surgical treatment of the diseases of the colon and rectum in Poland.
After obtaining the title of specialist in general surgery, he worked as a Senior Assistant at the University Clinical Hospital and then began training in pancreatic, liver and biliary surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Great Britain. Currently, he has completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in the best in the world medical university – Harvard Medical School in Boston.
During the specialty training, he participated in many courses in Poland and abroad (including Basic Laparascopic Skills -Berlin, Germany, Intermediate Laparoscopic Skills – Royal College of Surgeons, London, United Kingdom) and gained professional experience during numerous clinical internships (in the Department of Surgery, Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, among others).
Dr. Zelga combines passion for surgery with very active scientific work. He completed doctoral studies at the Medical University of Lodz, and his doctoral thesis (focusing on the issue of early detection and treatment of colorectal cancer based on the patient’s genetic profile) was awarded by the Foundation for Experimental and Clinical Oncology in Poland and received the award of the Marshal of the Lodz Region.
Further research work carried out at the University of Cambridge and Harvard University in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer was awarded by the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain & Ireland and the New England Surgical Society (USA). In working with the patient, Dr. Zelga primarily cares about good communication and patient comfort, which allow us to establish cooperation based on mutual trust.
